Lyndall recognized by the Governor for Volunteering
Our very own Lyndall was recognized recently by Governor Josh Stein with the Governor’s Award for Volunteer Service. The nomination read:
Lyndall Noyes-Brownell exemplifies volunteer service. Since 2018, she has devoted countless hours to the Friends of the Black Mountain Public Library, reviving the Seed Library as a welcoming space sharing environmental knowledge and stewardship. Free monthly “Sowing Circle” programs help preserve gardening traditions while inviting people of all ages to learn and grow together.
Due to Lyndall’s efforts, thousands of seeds have been shared in eight years, and after Tropical Storm Helene, Lyndall coordinated the distribution of nearly 500 free seed-starting packs, helping gardeners replant with heirloom seeds and reconnect the Black Mountain community to the land.
Lyndall’s generous service also includes managing the Friends’ Etsy shop, where her thoughtful curation and outstanding customer service have generated more than $60,800 in four years, directly supporting the Black Mountain Public Library. We have been able to purchase new furniture and upgrades to increase capacity for patrons.
Rooted in wholehearted service, Lyndall embodies community in action.
